Cranial Neurosurgery Fundamental Workshop - level II, standard approaches

This course offers a modular hands-on training on commonly used cranial approaches - pterional, retrosigmoid, suboccipital, anterior inter-hemispheric & subtemporal. For each approach modules include theoretical sessions, surgical planning workshop on planning stations and dissection workshop in a stimulated environment with the support of enabling technologies. The course is designed around a procedure workflow in which each enabling instrumentation and technology is didactically introduced when relevant in the workflow. This course will also introduce the participants on how to use surgical navigation throughout the procedural workflow.

Target audience:

This curriculum is designed for residents aiming at a career in Neurosurgery, having already 2 to 3 years of experience in neurosurgery. The participants will be selected by their head of department, to ensure continuity in the learning continuity and in-center follow-up. Preferred candidates would have attended the level I training.

Learning objectives:

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • understand the surgical anatomy of the most common approaches
  • acquire the knowledge for indications, variations and complications
  • applying technology to the surgical approaches including navigation on cadaver specimen

Accreditation:

An application for accreditation will be submitted with European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME)
